Thirroul Beach is found in the northern suburbs of Wollongong along the Grand Pacific Drive, which overlooks some of NSW’s most spectacular and dramatic coastline. Thirroul is nestled between the picturesque mountains and the sea. It is a 20 minute drive north of Wollongong’s central business district and a 40 minute drive from the southern suburbs of Sydney. It is patrolled patrolled from the start of the September school holidays till the end of the April school holidays with Council lifeguards patrolling from Monday to Saturday, and volunteer lifesavers from Surf Lifesaving Australia patrolling on Sundays and public holidays.

Thirroul Beach offers an open beach with wide sandbanks which is best at mid to low tide. Our timetables are carefully structured to make the best of this beach so surfers of all ages and abilities can enjoy their surfing experience. Thirroul Beach facilities include a fantastic children’s playground, picnic shelters, and cafe and change rooms. The beach offers a relaxed atmosphere for the whole family.

There is a wide range of things to do in and around Thirroul Beach including the Seacliff Bridge, Sublime Point Lookout walk, a saltwater pool, a buzzing main street with cafes, restaurants and charming shops.

How to Find Us

Located 20 minutes from Wollongong’s CBD, Northbound along ‘Memorial Drive’ and ‘Princes Highway’ you’ll find us at Thirroul Beach. If your coming from Sydney head down the ‘Bulli Pass’ Exit and your almost there. When heading North through Thirroul, drive over the railway bridge, in 200m you’ll head past Beaches Hotel on your left, veer right, you’ll pass Caltex Thirroul on your left, then in 200m it’s your next right turn onto ‘The Esplanade’.

Our meeting point is the ISA Equipment trailer which is parked on ‘The Esplanade’ directly North-West of the Thirroul Beach Surf Club.
